Development Manager/Foundation Liaison

Position Title: Development Manager/Foundation Liaison
Location: NY, NY
Classification: Non-exempt, full-time

Organization Overview
Project for Public Spaces (PPS) is a nonprofit dedicated to helping people create and sustain public spaces that build strong communities. Founded in 1975, we are the central hub of the global placemaking movement, connecting people to ideas, resources, expertise, and partners who see place as the key to addressing our greatest challenges. Since our founding, PPS has completed projects in more than 3,000 communities in 47 countries and in all 50 U.S. states. We are the premier center for best practices, information, and resources on placemaking.

PPS is launching several new programs that address critical social and economic issues in cities across America and we are looking for a person who shares our passion and can be a partner in formulating and communicating these new programs. PPS is known to, or has been funded by, many of the major national and regional foundations but is at an inflection point in its history when a new approach to these and other funders is timely.

Position Summary
PPS has successfully scaled our operations through a fee for service model with governments and municipalities paying for contract services. We also have a number of generous corporate sponsors that have helped sustain our work. However, in this new phase of leadership and growth, PPS now seeks to diversify our funding base, specifically targeting foundations and expanding corporate support. In order to tap into this segment of donors, PPS is seeking a qualified, highly motivated Development Manager/Foundation Liaison to help grow and manage a new portfolio of foundations and corporations. Reporting to the CEO, the Development Manager will oversee all private institutional fundraising. This role will identify and cultivate new prospects, will be responsible for grant and report writing, and will ensure timely and accurate management of all foundation and corporate grants. The Development Manager will work collaboratively across multiple teams to identify the organization’s most pressing needs and will align the fundraising strategy accordingly.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with a range of foundations and corporations, with a proven track record of success. The candidate will have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to convey complex, strategic information to both internal and external audiences. Additionally, the candidate must have excellent time management skills and have strong attention to detail, and should enjoy working directly with donors, as well as working behind the scenes with leadership and program staff to support all fundraising activities. This is a newly created position in an organization with a proven track record as the leader of the place-based movement that is in a time of transformation and growth. It is also an exciting opportunity for a motivated, self-starter who is keen to help create and implement an institutional fundraising strategy for well-known and respected non-profit.
