The Consultant plays a key role in strengthening social change organizations by partnering with Senior or Associate Consultants in the design, development, and implementation of a variety of consulting, coaching, and training engagements. As appropriate, the Consultant may lead a client engagement or an internal CRE project on his/her own. Working with a cross-section of CRE clients, the Consultant – in partnership with other consultants — will be accountable for achieving the outcomes and deliverables for each of those engagements. The Consultant also will support: business generation; increasing CRE’s visibility in the sector; developing or expanding CRE’s programs and services; and continuous learning and the sharing of new practices that deepen CRE’s expertise.

As a representative of CRE to clients and partners, the successful candidate must have the ability to maintain a broad perspective while attending to details, and to prioritize and complete multiple tasks effectively and efficiently. The individual must be proactive and take initiative in identifying problems and devising solutions, and have the flexibility and resilience to help implement those solutions with a strong focus on results, a sense of judgment, and discretion

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Client services and sector impact – teaming up with a Senior Consultant or an Associate Consultant, or leading (as appropriate), in the design and delivery of client engagements, including:

  • Consulting engagements, specifically in planning, strategic partnerships, diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), board development, innovation, and talent management
  • Leadership and management development using peer-based learning, team facilitation, coaching, and training
  • Implementation support for change initiatives
  • Design and development of group learning content and curricula
  • Build and maintain collaborative client relationships as the foundation for impactful client engagements
  • Partner with senior consultants and leadership in the preparation and presentation of bids/proposals for specific engagements
  • Lead and contribute to client projects amounting to a specific revenue target each year, to be determined with CRE leadership
  • Share insights and expertise by writing for knowledge-sharing outlets and social sector publications, and presenting at sector-wide events

Contribution to CRE

  • Collaborate with marketing staff to promote CRE’s offerings and special events
  • Contribute to business development and, where appropriate, fundraising efforts
  • Contribute to CRE’s knowledge management initiatives by writing articles, blogs, or case studies and serving as a resource to other colleagues and teams
  • Support colleagues and internal efforts that drive CRE’s growth and development
  • Support, model and advance racial equity within the organization
  • Participate actively in staff meetings and professional development initiatives
  • Support the design and development of new program offerings
  • Adherence to CRE’s contracting, program policies and processes (e.g., time entry, Salesforce entries, budget management, relationship management, documentation)
  • Supervise and mentor staff as needed

Qualification and experience

  • A minimum of two to three years of consulting experience
  • Understanding of organizational development and capacity building
  • Experience in at least two CRE consulting or group learning areas
  • Strong knowledge of the sector, particularly nonprofits addressing poverty and social justice; understanding of the philanthropic world is a plus
  • Effective facilitator of group learning activities
  • Understanding of adult learning
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Proficiency in a second language (in addition to English) preferred
  • Knowledge of and point of view on societal and racial inequities that frame the challenges CRE’s clients tackle
  • Self-awareness of social identities and how to manage dynamics of difference and power in interpersonal relationships with colleagues, clients and partners
  • Executive or peer coaching experience/training is a plus

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including an ability to articulate and present ideas effectively with presence
  • Proactive and a can-do attitude A team player; collaborative, collegial, and supportive with a sense of humor
  • Committed and open to learning; open to asking for and giving feedback
