LawHelp/NY is a user-friendly website designed to help low-income New Yorkers solve their legal problems. Do you have constituents that would benefit from legal advice but do not know how to find accurate information?
Did You Know?
- If you need an Order of Protection, all the instructions and the form are online in English and Spanish.
- If you are worried about elder abuse, you can get help from LawHelp's Senior section.
- If you are not a citizen and have been arrested, a plea bargain may lead to deportation and there are alternative strategies on LawHelp's Immigration topic.
- You can find an automated form for answering an eviction notice that you can file in court.
LawHelp/NY is the only comprehensive source of legal referral information in the state and lists more than 590 free legal service projects and organizations. It also has a Spanish mirror website and legal rights resources in more than 30 languages.
There are 2,500 Know Your Rights and self-help resources covering 15 areas of law including Housing, Family & Juvenile, Immigration, Worker's Rights, Public Benefits, Seniors and much more. There are also extensive links to social service, advocacy and government organizations, as well as information about the Court system. In 2007, LawHelp won a "Webby" (an Internet "Oscar") as the best law site in the country.
Please come to a free information and training session at Wednesday, April 30th from 10am -12pm if you would like to learn the most efficient and effective ways of accessing information on LawHelp/NY.
