By Michael Hickey, Independent Community Development Consultant - Just recently I attended a very compelling conference put on by The Association for Neighborhood and Housing Development, Neighborhood Housing Services of New York City, and my alma mater the Center for NYC Neighborhoods, entitled The Power of Collaboration. The title of the event comes from the very engaging article “Collective Impact,” published by the Stanford Social Innovation Review. Its authors make the argument that only through collaborative efforts can funders and nonprofit providers rise above the fragmentation of their service niche. by Holly Delany Cole - When Community Resource Exchange was established 30 years ago, its initial aim was to create a ‘space’ where nonprofits could assist one another directly, create support networks and share tools, templates and strategies for getting greater community outcomes.  CRE eventually became an intermediary whose staff partners with nonprofits to identify and solve institutional concerns and provides them with information and other resources, but we’ve never lost sight of our fundamental interest in promoting productive direct exchanges between and among nonprofits.  Read more >>

On a day when most people are enjoying a holiday, City Council Member James Sanders, Jr. gathered nonprofit leaders in District 31 in Queens (Laurelton, Springfield Gardens, Rosedale and the Rockaways) to network and receive training on nonprofit management.  Topics included starting a nonprofit, fundraising, planning and budgeting.  CRE consultant Arnaldo Simo led a session on Contingency Planning and Budgeting for nonprofits with budgets of $1 million and greater.   Read more >>

Sometimes it doesn’t take much assistance to help a group make a dramatic and successful step to preserve their programs. High 5 Tickets for the Arts came to CRE with a clear picture of their difficult financial situation and belief that their program was worth preserving.
