The Dorothy Bennett Mercy Center is looking for a dynamic part-time Executive Director who understands and supports the mission of the Center and will partner with the Board and staff to implement the organization’s strategic plan.

Established in 1995, the Dorothy Bennett Mercy Center is a community center in the heart of the Fort Greene/Bedford Stuyvesant neighborhoods of Brooklyn. Our mission is to offer programs that empower families in urban communities to overcome the negative influences that impact their well being and self-sufficiency. To this end the Center provides a variety of critical, free or low-cost services to the community, including after-school programming for neighborhood children and English as a Second Language and Computer Skills classes for adults. In addition, the Center provides assistance to immigrants and recently has developed programs for older adults and teens.

Qualifications
  • B.A. in education, social services, or related area; Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of five years of management-level experience in a similar nonprofit setting; prior experience in youth services or development a plus
  • Ability to work occasional nights and weekend days as part of part-time commitment (28 – 32 hours per week)
  • Respectful of the faith-based roots of the organization
  • Ability to speak Spanish a plus
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
Responsibilities
  • Promulgating the mission of the Dorothy Bennett Mercy Center through the development and implementation of programs and services that meet the needs of clients
  • Overall responsibility for the hiring, training and evaluation of staff and volunteers
  • Overall responsibility for the financial stability of the center including the good stewardship of resources; supervise bookkeeper on weekly and monthly tasks and ensure that the annual audit and monthly/quarterly reports to the board of directors are accurate and produced in a timely matter.
  • Responsible for all aspects of fund raising with an emphasis on securing corporate, foundation, and individual support for programs and services.
  • Responsible for quarterly and annual reports to funders and supporters
  • Responsible for all aspects of community relations including maintaining connections with key partners (such as St. Joseph’s College and the Maura Clark Ita Ford Center) as well as developing new connections and partnerships in the community.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining a positive public image with community members, local politicians, funders, and supporters
  • Other responsibilities as delegated by the Board of Directors
