by Walker Brierre - Young nonprofit employees, do you have a financial life? The answer is yes – whether you realize it or not – and Beth Kobliner wants to help you get your life in order.
Ms. Kobliner is a personal finance expert, media personality, and bestselling author. She recently published an updated version of her popular book, Get a Financial Life: Personal Finance in Your Twenties and Thirties. Yesterday, as part of CRE's Community and Sector Initiatives, she visited CRE to share her advice with a group of young professionals working in the nonprofit sector.
Her talk was informative and engaging. She focused on managing debt, although she touched on an array of topics from credit scores to compound interest. Her explanations were simple, clear, and thought-provoking. The inquisitive audience had no shortage of follow-up questions.
Perhaps the greatest success of the evening was how accessible she made all the topics seem. Personal finance can appear confusing or unapproachable, regardless of your age, but Ms. Kobliner’s talk showed that it doesn’t have to be. People just need the confidence to dive in, and her straightforward presentation helped instill that necessary sense of initiative.
I expect more of the same from her book, so I’m looking forward to reading it.
