Daring to Lead: A National Study on Executive Leadership

By Jean Lobell - The Daring to Lead 2011 National Report is here!  Community Resource Exchange (CRE) is happy to be a partner in this national study of nonprofit executive leadership.  As you read the report, the picture that emerges is the remarkable steadfastness and resilience of our sector’s leadership.  For CRE, the results affirm our own commitment to high quality and accessible leadership development opportunities.

Just to whet our appetites, here are the three themes that emerged from the national data:

Key Finding 1: Though slowed by the recession, projected rates of executive turnover remain high and many boards of directors are under-prepared to select and support new leaders.

Key Finding 2: The recession has amplified the chronic financial instability of many organizations, causing heightened anxiety and increased frustration with unsustainable financial models.

Key Finding 3: Despite the profound challenges of the role, nonprofit executives remain energized and resolved.

There will be three topical briefs to follow in the upcoming months – Leading Through a Recession, Inside the Executive Director Job, and The Board Paradox.

Stay tuned for a series of brief articles from CRE on the Daring to Lead website in response to the national report, as well as upcoming blog posts right here in the News and Views section of our website.
