CRE's Fran Barrett was named New Yorker of the Week by NY1 because of her extraordinary dedication to helping nonprofits throughout the five boroughs. Fran is the Executive Director and Founder of Community Resource Exchange (CRE) – a leading provider of management consulting to New York City community-based organizations that fight poverty and champion social justice issues. She founded CRE in 1979 to give the leadership of neighborhood groups in New York greater access to training, resources and support they needed to sustain excellent services, and to build strong and effective infrastructures to position their organizations to affect poverty.
Fran is a member of the Thirteen/WNET’s Community Hall of Fame, a receiptant of the Brooke Russell Astor Award, as well as a recpient of the Founder's Lifetime Achievement Award from the Alliance for Nonprofit Management.
Fran has served on the Boards of FoodChange, the Nonprofit Coordinating Committee, the Community Service Society, and the Campaign for Human Development. She sits on the selection committee for the New York Times Company Nonprofit Excellence Awards. Fran plays a leadership role in Gray Matters NYC.
